5k race on November 15, 2014 - Possible delays in and out of Subdivision

Please be advised that there will be a 5k race on November 15 and there may be delays getting in and out of the subdivision . See communications below:

Scarecrow Scamper Plan
Event times:
Registration begins at 6:20 a.m.
Race times will be 8:00 a.m. for 5K and 9:00 a.m. for 1 mile fun run.
The race course will begin in Hiram Elementary School parking lot and turn right onto Seaboard Ave.
Seaboard Avenue will be closed from 7:45 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. with 3 patrol officers in uniform available
at each intersection affected to assist with directing any emergency traffic. Cones will be placed from
Hiram Elementary to the trail to indicate the part of the road that is closed. The race travels on the trail
for approximately 1.4 miles with the “turn around” near Coppermine Rd. Runners/Walkers who have
not completed the 5K by 9:30 a.m. can utilize the sidewalk for their completion of the event. Timers
and assistants will be available on the trail to make sure the “turn around” is clear, water station is
efficient, areas are cleaned and that the last runner arrives safely. Official timing is being conducted
by Pacesetters PR. The parking for this event will also be managed by volunteer school staff. Parking
is available throughout the Hiram Elementary parking lot (including bus parking) as well as areas in the
back, as needed.
Hiram Elementary Principal, Paul Wilder, is responsible for obtaining Hiram Police officers and/or
Paulding County Sheriff deputies to manage intersections mentioned above. West Metro Ambulance
Service’s Karen Robinson has assigned a volunteer from West Metro for paramedic assistance during
this event. The school facilities are available for bathrooms. There will be not food vending. The school
will provide water and a light snack for runners after the event.
A map is enclosed with the area of the course highlighted (both 5K and 1 mile are included).
Notification of Event: The excerpt below is a notification we plan to post on our website, send home
with our students, and email to the H.O.A. head of Seaboard Township. We will also make any
adjustments in the excerpt as recommended by Hiram City authorities and send this notification to any
other individuals or businesses required. We will also include the event advertisement on our sign. We
would also like to request that the digital sign notify as well on HWY 92.
Hiram Elementary is hosting the first annual Scarecrow Scamper on November 15, 2014. This event
includes a 5K race and 1 mile fun run. To maintain safe travel for runners from Hiram Elementary
School to the Silver Comet Trail, one lane of Seaboard Ave will be closed from approximately 7:45 a.m.
to 9:30 a.m. with cones marking the area that is closed off. We apologize for any inconvenience this
may cause and hope that this notification will assist you with your plans on this morning. We would
love to invite you to participate in this event in any way you wish, as a runner, a “phantom runner”
(t-shirt only) or a cheerleader. Please contact Paul Wilder at Hiram Elementary School with any
questions or concerns about this event. Phone: (770) 443-3392 email: pwilder@paulding.k12.ga.us
